What to expect

Procedure involves several steps:
- Treatment area assessment.
- Numbing the area with topical lidocaine.
- Marking injection sites.
- Injecting dermal fillers using appropriate techniques.
- Providing detailed post care instructions.
Instructions
PRE-TREATMENT
- Inform your physician of any history of Perioral Herpes. Refrain from getting any dental work at least 2 weeks before your treatment and one month following the treatment.
- To minimize the risk of bruising, please refrain from taking Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, and Aleve; Garlic, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and Omega-3 capsules.
- Avoid using topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, or any “anti-aging” products. Also refrain from waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or using hair removal products on areas to be treated.
- Avoid drinking alcohol.
DAY OF TREATMENT
- Please do not wear makeup.
- To ensure your comfort during the procedure, a topical anesthetic may be applied. NOTE: dermal fillers contain lidocaine
- Treatment areas may require a massage which may cause a temporary skin redness or bruising.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER
- Some redness and swelling are common post-procedure effects. Bruising may also be visible.
- You may experience some tenderness at the injection sites that can last from a few hours to a few days.
- Depending upon injection sites and/or products used, you may feel “firmness” in the treated areas that may last up to 4 weeks.
POST CARE
- You may start wearing makeup as soon as any residual pinpoint bleeding from the injection sites has subsided.
- Please avoid rubbing treated areas for the first 24 to 48 hours following the procedure and, ideally, 5 to 7 days afterward.
- Please refrain from exercise or strenuous activities for the first 24-72 hours following your treatment.
- You may take Acetaminophen/Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort.
- Avoid extended UV-exposure for as long as you have redness or swelling at the treatment site. Be sure to apply an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.
- Wait for a minimum of four weeks (or as directed by your provider) before receiving any skin care or laser treatments.

- Refrain from eating hot, spicy, or salty foods.
- Refrain from biting your lips.
- Refrain from having oral sex.
- Refrain from using sipping straws
- Refrain from drinking alcohol for the first 24-72 hours.
- Bruising can last anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks.
